Education

The AGC of Michigan strives to offer current, relevant educational experiences for our members. A committee of member employees provides regular input to help us develop and deliver our ConstructED programs.

We offer the following programs developed by the AGC of America at various locations in Michigan:

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) Education Program - This 40 hour, four course program is progressive with an increasing level of difficulty within the courses. Together these courses are designed to give the student a common nomenclature, a broad understanding of the new processes required of BIM, a basic grasp of the technology, and an overview of the legal and insurance issues relevant to BIM.
  • Building to LEED for New Construction - This full-day course for the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) 2009 for New Construction and Major Renovations™ that helps contractors navigate through their role in constructing a green building. Construction professionals of all experience levels will benefit from this look at the best practices and potential pitfalls that can arise when building green.
  • Lean Construction Education Program - To develop the tools needed to build lean, the Associated General Contractors of America has developed the Lean Construction Education Program. Construction professionals at all experience levels, but especially those in the field, will learn the building blocks necessary to transform their projects and companies to a lean operating system. Unit 1 and Unit 2 are now open for registration in Michigan!
  • Project Manager Development Program - The five-course program for early-career professionals covers the essentials of project management and provides a solid foundation for long-term career development.
  • Supervisory Training Program- Supervisory Training Program (STP) is a construction-specific training curriculum developed, updated, and field-tested by and for contractors. It is a comprehensive 12-course program geared specifically to the topics construction site supervisors need most.

We also develop programs of local interest in response to members needs. These vary but include current issues regarding contracts, regulations and Licensing, human resources, project delivery, technology, and more.

Annually the committee delivers Professional Development Day, a full day of high level training centered on increasing the professional skills of all AGC members. The event, held in late February, in focused on lifelong learning which will enhance professionalism and integrity in dealing with customers. Numerous sessions are available to allow participants to customize their training.
