MIOSHA offers several cooperative programs to contractors to enhance a its safety performance and keep them in compliance. This portion of the Executive Safety Forum will outline the various cooperative programs and how they work.

Construction hazards world wide are the same, but world wide safety and health regulations, directives and methods of implementation are different. Mr. Hill will give details on how construction safety and health is addressed internationally and how it compares with US safety efforts.

ABB in the United States is a technology-based provider of power and automation products, systems, solutions, and services. As U.S. Safety & Health Advisor and regional health and safety adviser for North America, Darryl C. Hill, promotes designing jobs and jobsites for safety, along with statistical analyses and risk assessments. The aim is to eliminate suffering while curbing financial losses due to unnecessary safety incidents.

The Presenters:

Doug Kalinowski is Director of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA).  As Director, Kalinowski is responsible for the overall administration and enforcement of the safety and health provisions of the MIOSH Act, Public Act 154 of 1974, as amended. From February 1997 to October 2002, Kalinowski served as Deputy Director, with responsibilities for all enforcement programs.

Patty Meyer is a Construction Safety & Health Division Safety Manager.  The Division is one of two standards enforcement divisions of MIOSHA which enforces safety and health standards in the construction industry defined in the MIOSHA statute as work activity designated in major groups 15, 16, and 17 of the Standard Industrial Classification(SIC) Manual.

Mark LaClair has worked in the Construction Safety Industry over the past 21 years. Mark has 18 years of experience working for Walbridge where he currently supports the company as Corporate Safety Director. Mark's responsibilities for safety include - program development, staffing assignments for the 40 full time Safety Engineers, and project safety audits in the United States, Ontario, Mexico and Abu Dhabi located in the UAE.

Jason Thurau has worked in the Construction Safety Industry over the past 12 years. Jason has 5 years of experience working for Walbridge as a Project Safety Engineer. Jason is responsible for providing a safe place to work through orientations, inspections, guidance and strict adherence to the project safety policies and procedures. Jason is currently assigned to the BAE project in Sterling Heights and has worked on the Masdar project in Abu Dhabi located in the UAE.
